Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addresses a press conference on Tuesday.

The Indian government on Tuesday, categorically rejected US President Donald Trump's claim that Washington had played a role in preventing a nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan. The Ministry of External Affairs clarified that all military actions undertaken during the recent escalation remained strictly within the conventional domain, with no threat of nuclear confrontation.

"The military action was entirely in the conventional domain," said External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a press briefing. He addressed speculation surrounding Pakistan’s National Command Authority meeting on May 10, stating, "There were some reports that Pakistan’s National Command Authority will meet on 10 May. But this was later denied by them. Pakistan's Foreign Minister has himself denied the nuclear angle on record."

Jaiswal emphasised India's consistent position on the matter, stating, "India has a firm stance that it will not give in to nuclear blackmail or allow cross-border terrorism to be conducted invoking it. In conversations with various countries, we also cautioned that their subscribing to such scenarios could hurt them in their own region."

President Trump had earlier claimed that the U.S. acted as a mediator during the India-Pakistan standoff, asserting that American intervention not only led to a ceasefire but also helped prevent a potential nuclear conflict between the two nations.

In his first national address since the launch of Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly dismissed the notion of nuclear intimidation. “India will not tolerate any nuclear blackmail,” he declared. Modi also clarified that while current military operations against Pakistan have been paused, this is a temporary decision contingent on Pakistan's future conduct.

“We have only kept in abeyance our operations against Pakistan; the future will depend on their behaviour,” Modi said. “Operation Sindoor is now India's new policy against terrorism—a new line has been drawn.”
