In a significant public outreach initiative, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a nationwide Tiranga Yatra on Tuesday to honour the courage of Indian soldiers and raise awareness about the success of Operation Sindoor. The campaign, which began today, is scheduled to continue until May 23.
The yatra commenced in Delhi, with a symbolic march that featured a 108-foot-tall national flag. The event began at Kartavya Path and is set to culminate at the National War Memorial, drawing participation from a wide cross-section of society. Among those who joined the opening leg were Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, and numerous senior leaders, party workers, and citizens.
Thousands of participants—including BJP karyakartas, members of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), non-governmental organisations (NGOs), religious leaders, and social groups—gathered to pay tribute to the Indian armed forces. The yatra was marked by patriotic fervour and calls for national unity.

According to party sources, the campaign will be replicated across various states with ex-servicemen, social workers, and prominent public personalities leading the marches. These figures are expected to embody and spread the yatra’s core messages of unity, patriotism, and national pride.
The BJP is aiming to transform this initiative into a mass movement, reaching beyond its traditional political boundaries. The party leadership has directed all units to ensure extensive public participation, portraying the campaign as a tribute from the people of India to their armed forces.

In preparation for the launch, BJP President JP Nadda convened a crucial strategy meeting on May 12 at the party headquarters. During this session, coordination responsibilities were assigned to key leaders including Sambit Patra, Vinod Tawde, and Tarun Chugh, who will oversee the campaign’s execution across different regions.
The BJP has also outlined an aggressive media strategy to support the Tiranga Yatra. This includes hosting press conferences across the country and engaging with social media influencers to amplify the message digitally—particularly targeting youth audiences through various online platforms.

The backdrop of the yatra is Operation Sindoor, a recent military operation launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. In a swift retaliatory strike, Indian forces reportedly eliminated over 100 terrorists across the border in Pakistan.
Following the Indian offensive, Pakistan mounted a counteroffensive, prompting a further show of strength from India. This led to a ceasefire and a reaffirmation of India's defensive posture.
Through the Tiranga Yatra, the BJP aims to remind the public of India’s resolve against terrorism, while promoting a broader message of nationalism, unity, and unwavering support for the armed forces. The campaign is being positioned as both a tribute to India's military and a call to citizens to unite under the national flag during challenging times.
