Fifteen houses have been evacuated in the Ner Gharwarsra Panchayat of Jogindernagar, about 80 km from Mandi town, after a landslide hit the area, the police said on Wednesday.

Residents were moved to safety as a precaution, as the region has been experiencing continuous minor landslides. Officials said the local administration was monitoring the situation on the ground to ensure people remain safe.

“The evacuation was carried out due to continuous light landslides in the region, in order to prevent any untoward incident. So far, no loss of life or major damage had been reported,” said Sakini Kapoor, Station House Officer (SHO), Jogindernagar.

The evacuation comes just a day after a tragic landslide in Sundernagar town of Mandi district. Two houses were buried under debris there, and the death toll has risen to six after three more bodies were recovered.

The Indian Army, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) immediately launched search and rescue operations in Sundernagar. Teams have recovered three bodies so far, while the search continues for three others still missing.

“A landslide occurred late in the evening in Sundernagar, and two houses fell prey to it. In one house, there were four people, out of which two, one woman and one child, were pulled out. They were taken to the hospital but could not survive. In the second house, one body has been recovered,” said Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan.

Meanwhile, torrential monsoon rains and flooding continue to wreak havoc across northern India, hitting Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Uttarakhand especially hard.

Relentless downpours over the past few weeks have triggered landslides, flash floods, and severe waterlogging. These disasters have claimed many lives, displaced thousands, and damaged homes, roads, crops, and public infrastructure.

As swollen rivers cross danger levels and key highways remain blocked, rescue and relief work is in full swing. The Indian Army, Air Force, Navy, NDRF, SDRF, and state authorities are all engaged in round-the-clock operations to provide help and restore normal life.

According to the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), the monsoon has claimed 340 lives in the state since June 20. Of these, 182 deaths were caused by rain-related incidents such as landslides, flash floods, drowning, and house collapses, while 158 were due to road accidents.
