Road accident in Muzaffarpur: School bus carrying children overturned, 35 children injured

Thirty-five students of a private school sustained injuries when their school bus overturned on National Highway-28 in Muzaffarpur district on Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred around 9:30 am near Nariyar-Nawada when the driver, who was transporting students of Chandrasheel Vidyalaya to Motipur, lost control of the vehicle.

As the bus veered off the road and turned turtle, local villagers rushed to the scene, immediately informing the police and assisting in the rescue of the trapped students. Witnesses reported that the driver had been speeding at the time of the accident, which contributed to the loss of control.

According to Motipur Station House Officer (SHO) Rajan Pandey, four students suffered fractures and head injuries, though their condition remains stable.

The remaining students were given preliminary medical treatment and discharged. The injured were first taken to a nearby community health center, and four of them were later referred to SK Medical Hospital in Muzaffarpur for further care.

Pandey further stated that the driver abandoned the injured students and fled the scene following the crash. It was the quick intervention of the villagers that ensured the children were safely pulled out of the overturned vehicle.

Authorities have impounded the school bus, and legal action is being initiated against both the driver and the vehicle owner. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (West) Sumitra Kumari confirmed that speeding was the primary cause of the accident, and an investigation is underway to hold those responsible accountable.
