Six people, including a police officer from Chhattisgarh, lost their lives in a severe accident when an SUV collided with a truck on a state highway in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday night. Three others were injured in the crash.
The victims, from Ramanujganj district in Chhattisgarh, were traveling to Prayagraj for a holy dip at the Maha Kumbh. The impact was so strong that rescuers had to use gas cutters to free those trapped inside the SUV.
According to the police, the accident happened when the SUV crashed head-on into the truck. After the collision, the truck kept moving and hit another truck driver who had stopped for tea, killing him, before finally crashing into a house. The truck driver also died from his injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Ravi Prakash Mishra, Usha Mishra, Priyanka Mishra, Atharv Mishra, and two truck drivers, Daya Shankar Pal and Guddu Kumar.

Ravi Prakash Mishra, the SUV owner, was a police sub-inspector in Chhattisgarh. He was traveling with his mother, Usha Mishra, his wife, Priyanka Mishra, his sons, Divyanshu Mishra and Atharv Mishra, their house help, Durga Devi, and his driver, Sane Qadri (also known as Sanaulla Khalifa).
Among them, Divyanshu Mishra and Durga Devi sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.
Sonbhadra SP Ashok Meena stated that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. The injured have been taken to BHU for medical care.
