AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan, booked by the Delhi Police for allegedly obstructing a police operation in Jamia Nagar, has 'denied' any attempt to evade arrest, asserting that he remains in his assembly constituency.
On Tuesday, the Delhi Police launched an operation to locate the Okhla MLA after an FIR was filed against him for allegedly manhandling and threatening a police team attempting to arrest an accused.
The case has been registered under sections 221, 121(1), 132, 191(2), 190, 263(b), 351(3), and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

The incident occurred on 10 February at around 3 pm when the Crime Branch team of Delhi Police arrived at Jogabai Extension in Jamia Nagar to apprehend Shavej Khan, wanted in a 2018 attempted murder case.
According to the FIR, Amanatullah Khan and his supporters obstructed police action and engaged in a scuffle, allegedly preventing the suspect's arrest.
Hours after the operation, Khan issued a public statement, maintaining that he was being falsely implicated.
“I am in my assembly constituency, I have not fled anywhere. Some people from Delhi Police are implicating me in a false case... The person whom Delhi Police had come to arrest has already got bail. When the person showed his papers, the police are implicating me in a false case to hide their mistake,” he stated in a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has backed its leader, reiterating that the police are attempting to frame Khan. The party highlighted in its communication to the police chief that the accused, whom the police sought to arrest, had already secured bail.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, however, strongly criticised Khan, calling him a man of “criminal nature.”
“MLA Amanatullah Khan is a man with a criminal nature. There are already several cases pending against him, where he repeatedly tries to manipulate the law. What he has done now is to save an accused in the murder. Such people should be punished under the law,” he said
As Delhi Police intensify efforts to trace Khan, the political row over the case has escalated, with BJP demanding strict action and AAP alleging political vendetta.
Khan, who retained his Okhla seat with a significant margin of 23,639 votes, is one of AAP’s key leaders.
However, his party suffered a major setback in the recent Delhi Assembly elections, securing only 22 seats, a sharp decline from its previous tally of 62, while the BJP clinched 48 seats, marking a return to governance in the national capital after 27 years.
