Bihar police deny injuries to BPSC protesters in Patna

Officials alleged that coaching teachers were provoking aspirants to protest and pointed out several social media accounts accused of misleading students.

News Arena Network - Patna - UPDATED: December 26, 2024, 02:49 PM - 2 min read

A police official lathicharges aspirants during their protest over normalization of the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination, outside BPSC office, in Patna.

The Bihar Police clarified their actions after using "mild force" to disperse Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants protesting near the commission's office in Patna.

The students were demanding the cancellation of the BPSC preliminary examination. Authorities denied any injuries to the aspirants and claimed that coaching teachers and social media accounts were misleading the students.

Since December 18, aspirants have been staging protests at Gardanibagh's Dharna Sthal, calling for the cancellation of the exam. According to DSP Anu Kumari, "Some teachers are directly or indirectly provoking the students, while social media handles are spreading false information to incite them."

On December 23, one aspirant reportedly vandalised Gardanibagh Hospital, and on December 25, hundreds of aspirants gathered outside the BPSC office, creating disruptions. The police intervened, citing public inconvenience and law-and-order issues. "Mild force was used to disperse the crowd, and no injuries were reported," said the DSP.

An FIR has been lodged at the Gardanibagh police station against those accused of instigating the aspirants and vandalising the hospital. Legal notices are being sent, and further action is underway.

"We are identifying individuals involved in today's illegal gathering near the BPSC office, and cases will be registered," added the DSP.

Meanwhile, BPSC Chairman Parmar Ravi Manubhai stated that the 70th Integrated Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024, held earlier this month, would not be canceled despite the protests.

In solidarity with the aspirants, YouTuber and educator Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, visited students participating in a hunger strike on Tuesday.
