Announces closure of low-enrollment schools, increased seats, and commuting expense support for students.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said today that despite facing difficulties, the state government is working to make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant by building a strong foundation for its future.

Speaking at the annual function of Rajiv Gandhi Government College, Chaura Maidan, Shimla, he stressed that every section of society should benefit from the state's resources, rather than allowing only a few people to gain for political reasons. He said the government is making many reforms to ensure development for all and will continue taking strong steps in this direction.

The Chief Minister announced several major changes in the education system that will start from the next academic session. Government senior secondary schools at district headquarters will now have co-education, allowing both boys and girls to study together to improve the quality of education.

The government is also opening Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools in every Assembly constituency in a phased manner. Ten such schools will start in the next session, and they will have modern facilities such as swimming pools, indoor stadiums, and better sports infrastructure to support students' overall growth.

Sukhu also announced that schools with very few students or poor education standards will be closed from the next academic session. However, students affected by these closures will be given seats in nearby well-functioning schools, and the government will pay for their travel expenses to ensure they do not face any difficulties.

He also criticised the previous BJP government, saying that they opened 900 institutions in the last six months of their term without any budget planning, only for election benefits. In contrast, the present government is focusing on quality education so that students are well-prepared for future challenges.

Encouraging students, Sukhu said that government school students are just as capable as those from private schools. He shared his own journey, saying, "I studied in a government school and became the Chief Minister. If I can do it, then any student can achieve their dreams with dedication."

The government is working hard to improve education in the state and will introduce a single Directorate to manage education from nursery to higher secondary levels. He assured that in five years, Himachal’s education system will meet global standards, and lack of funds will not be a problem.

During the event, the Chief Minister also announced that Rajiv Gandhi Government College, Chaura Maidan will get a central heating system, and postgraduate courses in Economics, Political Science, and English will start from the next academic session.

He also honoured meritorious students at the function. The event was attended by MLAs Harish Janartha and Sanjay Awasthy, Mayor Surinder Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, HP Youth Congress President Chhatar Singh, and other dignitaries. The state government is committed to providing better education and opportunities for all students in Himachal Pradesh.
