Violent clashes erupted in Jharkhand’s Giridih during a Holi procession on Friday, leaving several people injured as members of two communities engaged in stone-pelting.
The unrest began in the Ghodthamba locality when a group opposed the procession passing through the area, sparking a confrontation that quickly escalated into violence. Shops and vehicles were set ablaze amid the chaos, prompting the deployment of heavy security forces to restore order and prevent further escalation.
Authorities assured that the situation was under control and closely monitored. A senior police official stated that a large contingent of security personnel had been deployed to maintain peace.
He confirmed that while some vehicles were torched, no major injuries had been reported so far. The police are in the process of identifying those responsible for inciting violence and assured that appropriate action would be taken against them.

In a similar incident in Punjab’s Ludhiana, three people sustained injuries during a Holi celebration after a heated argument escalated into a violent clash between two groups.
The dispute reportedly began when some individuals objected to loud music being played on a DJ system near a mosque. The confrontation led to stone-pelting between the groups before the police intervened to control the situation.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Ludhiana, PS Virk, tensions flared between migrants from other states and members of the Muslim community over the volume of the DJ music.
The police registered an FIR and detained several individuals for questioning. Officials are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprits, and further investigation is underway.
