Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday issued a strong warning over the rising drug menace, saying cross-border narco-terror networks are trying to destabilise society and target the youth.

“This serious drug crisis has been systematically fuelled by the neighbouring country to finance terrorism and create social disruption,” he said while participating in the 100-day anti-drug campaign Nasha Mukt Abhiyan in Samba.

Terming the crisis a deliberate attempt to promote terrorism and weaken society, he stressed the need for strict enforcement of laws and a sustained, people-led movement to eliminate the threat.

A large gathering was witnessed in Samba as people from different sections of society joined the campaign and pledged to work towards making society free from drugs.

“I believe this 100-day movement will inspire future generations and show that when people unite, they can bring real change,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
On April 11, Sinha had led a padyatra from M A Stadium to Parade Ground in Jammu city to mark the launch of the anti-drug campaign. Over the past two weeks, he also led rallies in several districts as part of the initiative.

During a major crackdown across Jammu and Kashmir in the past fortnight, authorities arrested several drug peddlers, including key kingpins, and demolished more than half a dozen residential properties linked to major traffickers.

LG Sinha said continuous monitoring of the drug-free J&K campaign is essential. He directed district administrations and enforcement agencies to review weekly marches and programmes to ensure progress in identification, counselling, treatment and rehabilitation efforts.

“For the next 85 days, we must maintain the momentum, reach every household across the Union Territory and spread awareness about the dangers of drugs. Participation and sustained energy are crucial because drug addiction is not just an individual issue but a social crisis,” Sinha said, assuring citizens that strict action will continue against drug networks.
