Enforcement Directorate sleuths on Wednesday recovered bundles of Rs 500 notes from the drawer in the office chamber of Sanjeev Kumar Lal, Personal Secretary to Jharkhand Minister Alamgir Alam during a search at Jharkhand Secretariat.

At the time of filing of the report, a search was going on at the Project Building Secretariat. ED Deputy Director Kapil Raj was also present during the search.

Lal along with his household help Jahangir Alam was arrested on May 7 by ED after cash recovery from his premises amounting to more than Rs 35 crore during a search operation launched by the investigation agency.

After taking Sanjeev Lal and Jahangir in remand ED has started interrogation of the accused from Wednesday. It is being said that on a tip the ED team reached the Secretariat to search for documents in Lal's chamber, where the cash was found.

ED has received information that the money collected in the name of corruption and commission from contracts in the Rural Development Department of Jharkhand Government used to reach Sanjeev Lal. He collected the money from engineers of the department and some private people.

ED has also told the court in its remand petition that the nexus of lower officials to high-ranking officials of the Rural Development Department of the Jharkhand Government is involved in the entire corruption. Crores of rupees reached the officers and leaders. Initial investigation has revealed that a huge amount of money was sent to all of them in cash.
