Former Odisha Governor and ex-Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das is set to return to active politics by rejoining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on January 10.

After resigning as Odisha’s Governor, Das announced his decision to re-enter politics as a committed BJP worker. Speaking in Ranchi, he expressed his dedication to both the party and the people of Jharkhand.

While his role in the Jharkhand BJP is yet to be clarified, Das’s return is seen as a significant move orchestrated by the party’s high command. He is scheduled to formally rejoin at the BJP office in Ranchi, where party workers are preparing a grand welcome.

The city of Ranchi has been decorated with banners and posters celebrating his comeback. Thousands of BJP supporters and leaders from Jamshedpur and other areas are expected to gather in Ranchi for the event on Friday.

Das reflected on his tenure as Jharkhand’s Chief Minister from 2014 to 2019, emphasising his identity as a "common man" accessible to all. "I have always been the CM – the ‘common man’ – working for the people," he said.

He assured his willingness to take on any responsibility assigned by the BJP, promising to serve with loyalty and humility. Das also highlighted his open-door leadership style during his time as both Chief Minister and Odisha Governor. "For me, titles are secondary; serving people has always been my true mission," he added.

While BJP supporters celebrate his return, Congress leader and Jharkhand Minister Radha Krishna Kishore commented on the party’s decision. Kishore pointed out that past experiments with external leadership in Jharkhand BJP had failed and stated that Das’s success would depend on the party’s future strategy.

Kishore also dismissed concerns about challenges to Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s government, asserting that it remains stable and could last another 10-15 years. Raghubar Das’s return marks a significant moment for the BJP in Jharkhand, as party members and leaders eagerly await his next steps.
