The Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), have put in place foolproof security measures along a crucial 47-kilometre stretch of National Highway-44 to ensure the smooth and safe passage of the annual Darbar Move convoy.
The Darbar Move — the biannual shift of the Jammu and Kashmir Secretariat — is currently underway, with Secretariat employees and official records moving from Jammu to Srinagar. Offices in Jammu closed on April 30, and official functioning is scheduled to resume in Srinagar from May 4.
The CRPF’s 84th Battalion, headquartered at Chanderkote in Ramban, is responsible for securing the sensitive stretch of NH-44 from the 9.8-km Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Tunnel at Nashri to Digdol.
Commandant of the CRPF 84th Battalion, N Ranbir Singh, said, “Like every year, the Darbar Move process has begun. Offices in Jammu have closed today and will reopen in Srinagar on May 4. Many VVIPs, including ministers, MLAs, and senior officials, will be travelling on this route.” He added that the battalion has deployed personnel at full strength, with special focus on critical tactical points.
Bomb Disposal Squads, sniffer dog squads, and drones have also been deployed along the highway. “Our preparations are at the highest level, with full alertness and readiness. Most of our personnel will be deployed on the ground,” the Commandant said.
The CRPF has also made extensive security and logistical arrangements in view of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. Road Opening Patrol (ROP) teams begin operations early every morning to sanitise and monitor the highway.
