Amritsar temple attack caught on CCTV, cops probe Pak link

CCTV footage from the scene showed two masked men on a motorcycle throwing what appeared to be an explosive device at the temple shortly after midnight.

Police officials and locals gathered outside the temple in Amritsar’s Khandwala area after a grenade attack late on Friday night.

A forensic team conducted a detailed investigation at the Thakurdwara Temple in Khandwala, Amritsar, after a grenade attack took place late last night. The team collected evidence and samples from the site as authorities intensified their probe into the incident.

CCTV footage from the scene showed two masked men on a motorcycle throwing what appeared to be an explosive device at the temple shortly after midnight.

Eyewitnesses also confirmed that two individuals were seen hurling a suspicious object toward the premises. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported. Local police responded immediately, securing the area and initiating an investigation.

Harvinder Singh Randhawa, a BJP leader, expressed concerns over the rising atmosphere of fear in Amritsar.

Speaking to the media, he said, "Every community member is present here. Even though no lives were lost, an atmosphere of terror is being created in Amritsar. Since our temple has been attacked, we have united and issued an ultimatum of 72 hours. If the authorities fail to act, we will shut down the entire city."

BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also criticized the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, citing a deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab.

"Ever since the Aam Aadmi Party came to power, the law and order situation has worsened. These grenade attacks are occurring in a systematic manner, some even targeting police stations. Meanwhile, the police force is preoccupied with providing security to Arvind Kejriwal," Poonawalla said in a statement.

Punjab Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal confirmed that two suspects had been identified in connection with the attack. He assured the public that the authorities were moving swiftly to apprehend the culprits.

"There were some miscreants who hurled a grenade at a temple after midnight. Thankfully, there are no injuries or casualties. The situation is under control. The police have identified two suspects and will capture them within a day," he stated.

Adding another dimension to the investigation, Amritsar Commissioner GPS Bhullar suggested the possible involvement of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, in the attack. "We received information at 2 a.m. and immediately reached the site.

A forensic team was called in to collect evidence. After reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to local residents, we suspect that Pakistan's ISI is luring our youth into creating unrest in Punjab," Commissioner Bhullar said.

He further assured the public that the police were working diligently to solve the case. "We will resolve this case in a matter of days and take strict action against those responsible. I also warn young individuals not to fall into such traps and ruin their lives. The authorities will soon arrest the perpetrators," he stated.

The investigation remains ongoing, with law enforcement agencies working around the clock to ensure the safety and security of the region. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement officials.
