Godawari Power and Ispat Limited (GPIL), part of the Chhattisgarh-based Hira Group, has received final approval to operate its expanded Sponge Iron Division.
The company increased the capacity of its Sponge Iron Division (SID) from 495,000 metric tons per year to 594,000 metric tons per year at its existing plant in Siltara Industrial Area, Raipur, Chhattisgarh. GPIL had already received permission to operate in January 2024, and on Wednesday night, it received the final approval letter.

In a regulatory filing, GPIL said, "We are happy to announce that we have received the unconditional final approval from the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB), allowing us to operate at the new capacity of 594,000 metric tons per year."

The company also mentioned that it had earlier received permission for a trial run in January 2024, valid until August 2024. GPIL confirmed that no changes or additional investments would be needed to operate at the new capacity.
GPIL is a fully integrated steel company involved in every step of steel production, from mining iron ore to producing high-value steel products.
