The Income Tax department has sent a notice to Waheed Para, a youth leader from the PDP and MLA from Jammu and Kashmir, asking him to provide his financial records, officials said on Sunday.
According to the notice, Para was required to appear before the tax authorities on December 20. However, his close aide told reporters that the notice was received that same day and that a representative would go to the Income Tax office on Monday.
The notice was issued under Section 131(1A) of the Income Tax Act, which allows tax officers to request information from taxpayers even if no formal investigation is underway. This section also lets authorities examine financial records and accounts, either directly or through a representative.
According to official documents filed with the Election Commission after the recent assembly elections, Para spent over Rs 14 lakh on his campaign. Of this, Rs 12 lakh was received as loans, gifts, and donations from individuals, companies, firms, and associations.

In his election affidavit, Para reported that his total assets, including both movable and immovable property, were worth more than Rs 2.5 crore. This included inherited agricultural land valued at Rs 2 crore.
Para had been in jail for two years but was granted bail. He was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on November 25, 2020, the day after he was nominated for the District Development Council elections in Pulwama.
However, he was released on bail by the NIA court in January 2021.
