AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday made a fervent appeal to the youth of Punjab to actively support the ongoing battle against drug abuse, emphasising that their participation is crucial in achieving a drug-free state.
Addressing a large gathering before flagging off an anti-drug awareness march, the former Delhi Chief Minister underscored the pivotal role of Punjab’s youth in eradicating the menace. He warned that if left unchecked, drug addiction could become a deep-rooted crisis, devastating the state's future generations.
"The future of Punjab lies in your hands. Among you are Punjab’s future chief ministers, ministers, MLAs, and successful entrepreneurs. You have the power to shape a new and prosperous Punjab," Kejriwal said, making an emotional appeal to young citizens to take ownership of the state’s future.
Criticizing previous administrations, Kejriwal alleged that past governments had "patronized drug cartels" for illegal financial gains, leading to the ruin of countless families. He assured the public that those responsible for enabling the drug trade would be held accountable and punished for their actions.
Reiterating the Punjab government’s commitment to its zero-tolerance policy against drugs, Kejriwal highlighted recent actions taken against drug traffickers. "In the last 30 days, massive properties built with drug money have been demolished, and those involved in drug trafficking will be put behind bars," he asserted.

Kejriwal also outlined the government’s proactive steps in setting up de-addiction centers to aid individuals battling substance abuse. He urged the youth to report any friend or family member suffering from addiction so they could receive timely intervention. "Your identity will be kept confidential," he assured, encouraging people to cooperate with authorities in tackling the crisis.
As part of a broader initiative to steer young people toward positive engagements, Kejriwal announced significant investments in youth development.
"Every village and locality will soon have well-equipped sports grounds and modern facilities to encourage young people to take up sports instead of falling into the trap of drugs. Additionally, cultural activities will be actively promoted to foster community engagement and holistic development," he added.
With these measures, Kejriwal reaffirmed AAP’s commitment to creating a drug-free Punjab, calling upon every citizen to join the movement and work towards a healthier, more prosperous future for the state.
