Under the ongoing anti-drug campaign directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Ferozepur has successfully dismantled a cross-border drug smuggling racket.

The operation led to the arrest of a drug smuggler and the seizure of 3.5 kg of heroin, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav. The accused, identified as Sukhdev Singh alias Sukhi, is a resident of Mohan Ke Uttar in Ferozepur. Along with the heroin, police have also impounded the motorcycle he was using at the time of his arrest.

DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigations indicate the arrested accused was in direct contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler, who was using drones to drop drug consignments across the border.

The police are conducting further investigations to identify the entire network and establish both forward and backward linkages in the case.

In a statement on social media platform X, DGP Punjab Police confirmed the operation, stating that CI Ferozepur had successfully busted a cross-border drug cartel by arresting Sukhdev Singh and recovering 3.5 kg of heroin.

He further mentioned that an FIR under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act had been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) police station in Fazilka. Punjab Police remains committed to dismantling drug cartels and making the state drug-free.

Providing more details about the operation, AIG Counter Intelligence Ferozepur, Gursewak Singh Brar, revealed that based on credible intelligence regarding Sukhdev Singh’s involvement in smuggling activities, police teams from CI Ferozepur launched an intelligence-led operation in the area of village Lakho Ke Behram in Ferozepur.

The accused was apprehended while carrying seven packets of heroin, each weighing 500 grams, concealed in a plastic bag. He was reportedly on his way to deliver the consignment when he was intercepted by the police.

Authorities are now working to identify the entire supply chain, including suppliers, dealers, and buyers, as well as the individual to whom Sukhdev Singh was supposed to deliver the consignment. Investigators anticipate making additional recoveries and arrests in the coming days.

A formal case was registered on March 31, 2025, under Section 21-C of the NDPS Act at the SSOC police station in Fazilka. The accused will be presented before the court, where the police will seek remand for further investigation to dismantle the larger network involved in cross-border drug smuggling.
