Andhra Pradesh High Court has ordered interim relief for the former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the death case of a YSRCP fan at the time of the party chief's rally in Guntur. "With all precautions, still accidents occurred even at the Kumbh Mela," the court commented while ordering relief for the former chief minister.
On the 18th of June, a 53-year-old man, C Singayya, was killed when one of the cars in the convoy of Jagan Reddy drove over him at Satanapalle in Palanadu district, while the rally was going on. Once the police had identified the vehicle as being that of Jagan Reddy, his vehicle was impounded and an FIR was filed against the head of YSRCP and other members.
The FIR, which was lodged on the same day, included charges of culpable homicide and death due to negligence. The action elicited acidic political backlash from Jagan Reddy and his party with him slamming Andhra Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and accusing lapses in the Z+ security protocol. Jagan Reddy also termed the FIR as a 'distrust tactic' of the Naidu government.

While the YSRCP stated Singayya died when he was close to Jagan Reddy's convoy, the Telugu Desam Party alleged that he was run over by one of the vehicles in the convoy.
Jagan Reddy subsequently filed a quash petition in Andhra Pradesh High Court against the aforesaid hit-and-run case. In his petition, he claimed that his name was consciously inserted as an accused and that he was being framed, sources said. Sources added that he also included a statement from Singayya's family, and mentioned that his party leaders compensated them.
