Rahul says PM ‘serving interests of wealthy’

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressing a public rally in Himachal Pradesh.

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of waiving off Rs 16 lakh Crore worth of loans for 22 Individuals in the last decade, while the issue of the loan burden on farmers was ignored.

Addressing a poll rally in Nahan in Shimla Lok Sabha constituency, Rahul Gandhi said the Prime Minister served the interests of these wealthy individuals of the country.

He cited the allocation of seven airports to industrialist Gautam Adani's company, which is also involved in weapons manufacturing.

"As long as Modi is in power, Adani's company will continue to profit," he stated.

Rahul criticised Modi for failing to provide aid to Himachal Pradesh in the worst natural calamity that hit the state last year, which affected over 22000 families.

He said the Union government is yet to release Rs 9,000 crore as a relief fund to the state.

He also accused Modi of colluding with Adani, resulting in unfair prices for apple growers in Himachal.

”Modi government has handed over the entire apple storage facility to a single individual who now controls apple prices,” said Rahul.

The Congress leader promised  30 lakh government jobs and MNREGA Wage Hike to Rs 400.

The senior Congress leader appealed to people to vote for the Congress party's victory in all the four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal. He added, "Priyanka and I are your soldiers in Delhi, and we will raise the voice of Himachal Pradesh in the capital."

Rahul said the BJP government had devastated millions of small businesses through demonetisation and the mismanagement of GST implementation.

He said that the dreams of a select few are being fulfilled while the rest of the country looks on.

Rahul promised to uplift millions by making them millionaires, transferring one lakh Rupees annually to the accounts of impoverished women, ensuring a legal guarantee of minimum support price for farmers, creating 30 lakh government sector jobs, and increasing the daily wage of MGNREGA to Rs 400 if Congress party was voted to power.

He said that graduate youth will be granted the 'Pehli Naukri Pakki Adhikar' for employment in government entities.

“The Congress party pledges to waive farmer loans, double the income of Anganwadi and Asha workers upon assuming power,” he said.

Rahul emphasised the sanctity of the Constitution, stating that it embodies the voice of India. He criticised the BJP for what he saw as attacks on it.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu accused the BJP of attempting to buy the people's right to vote. He said after the long struggle for independence, the Congress Party had granted this right to vote to the countrymen, but now the BJP seeks to grab power through money.

He urged the public to teach the BJP a lesson on June 1st, as this election is important in determining the future of the state's politics. He said that only the people can defeat the power of money.

He expressed confidence that Congress will win all four Lok Sabha seats and six Assembly segments, where by-polls are being held.

Congress state in-charge of Himachal Pradesh Rajiv Shukla, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee President Pratibha Singh, Congress party candidate from Shimla Vinod Sultanpuri, Industries Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan, MLA Ajay Solanki and Congress party officials and workers were present.
