Driving digital India: MeitY's strategic wins in Electronics and IT

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is a governmental body in India entrusted with the task of spearheading the country's digital transformation.

 

Its vision revolves around leveraging e-development as the engine for transitioning into a developed nation and empowering society at large.

 

Rajeev Chandrashekhar who is the Minister of State in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Jal Shakti has been the strongest advocate for government’s digital India program.

SemiconIndia 2023 Inauguration:

 

Prime Minister Modi inaugurated SemiconIndia 2023 in Gandhinagar, emphasizing the crucial role of semiconductors in various sectors and India's commitment to building a semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.

 

GPAI Summit:

 

India, as the Incoming Support Chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), successfully hosted the GPAI Summit in New Delhi, focusing on advancing safe, secure, and trustworthy AI. The summit highlighted India's leadership in AI innovation and its role in shaping the global AI ecosystem.

 

Incentive Scheme for Digital Payments:

 

The Cabinet approved an incentive scheme to promote digital payments through RuPay Debit Cards and BHIM-UPI transactions, aimed at boosting digital transactions and enhancing financial inclusion.

UIDAI Initiatives:

 

UIDAI introduced new security mechanisms for Aadhaar authentication, rolled out online document updates free of cost, and deliberated on resident-centric initiatives to enhance ease of living and data security.

 

Extension of Digital India Programme:

 

The Cabinet approved the extension of the Digital India programme with a significant outlay, focusing on IT skills development, digital infrastructure enhancement, cybersecurity, and the promotion of digital services.

 

Launch of Bhasha Net portal:

 

Recently, MeitY and NIXI launched the BhashaNet portal at the Universal Acceptance Day event, with support from ICANN. The launch marked a significant step in promoting digital inclusion and Universal Acceptance across India.

Micron's Semiconductor Project:

 

Approval was granted for Micron's semiconductor unit in Gujarat, highlighting efforts to bolster semiconductor manufacturing in India and create job opportunities.

 

Production Linked Incentive Schemes:

 

The Cabinet approved PLI schemes for IT hardware, attracting major manufacturers to establish manufacturing facilities in India, fostering employment and investment.

 

G20-Digital Innovation Alliance Programme:

 

 MeitY organized the G20-Digital Innovation Alliance Programme, showcasing startups, fostering international collaboration, and promoting digital innovation.

 

Recently, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) hosted the Startup Mahakhumb 2024, marking the commencement of an unprecedented event aimed at uniting India's dynamic startup ecosystem under one roof.

 

Held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi in March, the event resonated with the resounding theme of 'Bharat Innovates,' aiming to catalyze innovation, facilitate networking, and foster growth opportunities for startups, investors, incubators, accelerators, and industry leaders across diverse sectors.
